A sustainable roof does more than keep the rain out. It reduces the energy a building uses, lasts longer so less material is wasted, and helps cool the city around it. Cool roofs are among the most practical sustainable roofing solutions because they work passively, with no power or moving parts. Panache offers cool roof systems for green buildings that combine high SRI coatings, thermal insulation and waterproofing, so the roof performs on energy, durability and certification together.
Green Pro certified cooling, insulation and waterproofing systems for the whole envelope
Panache offers a Green Pro certified range of high SRI products and systems for roofs, walls, pavements, cycle tracks, driveways and roads, working on NIR reflection technology and nanotechnology. These are supported by insulation and waterproofing systems. For architects and consultants, the wider offer is listed under our product segments, with a dedicated page for green building products for architects.
a system that cools and waterproofs the roof together.
A roof is sustainable when it lowers the building's energy demand across its life, uses materials with low environmental impact and lasts long enough to avoid repeated replacement. A cool roof meets these conditions because it addresses the biggest cause of roof related energy use, which is solar heat gain.
Almost 58 to 60 percent of solar radiation is infrared. A conventional roof absorbs it and heats to 60 to 75 °C. A high SRI coating reflects the infrared, and its high emittance releases the remaining heat, so roofs stay up to 20 to 28 °C cooler and walls up to 10 °C cooler. The SRI of a good cool surface material is above 100.
The coatings are water based, which means they do not need solvents, and the Cool Tops range is low in VOC. Cooler roofs also see less thermal movement, so the roof surface lasts longer and needs fewer repairs.
Cities are getting hotter as dense construction increases surface temperatures up to 70 °C. When the ambient temperature is 45 °C, metal roofs reach 80 °C and cement roofs 65 to 70 °C. This adds to the Urban Heat Island effect and raises cooling demand.
Air conditioning is a prominent electricity load, and it grows with rising incomes and construction. A cool roof is a reliable, environmentally friendly and passive way to reduce it. It lowers peak power demand, curbs pollution and cools the air near the building, and it improves air quality by slowing smog forming reactions.
At the scale of a building, sustainability means lower operating energy and carbon. At the scale of a city, it means less heat and less electricity generation. Cool roofs deliver at both scales, which is why they feature in green building assessments. The pairing of cool roofs with green buildings is described further under green infrastructure.
Material choice supports this. Panache products are Green Pro and GRIHA certified, with EPD certification in process, so the environmental credentials of the product can be documented.

Water Proofing: roof and structure waterproofing.
Thermal Insulation: Insulmix roof screed, wall plaster and wall texture.
Water Repellents / Sealants: protection for masonry and exterior walls.
Metal Care: protective treatments for metal surfaces.
Wood Care: protective treatments for wooden surfaces.
A cool roof coating is a binder, usually organic or silicone, blended with pigments and additives. It protects the roof membrane for a longer life cycle and reflects solar radiation to reduce air conditioning cost.
The main components are the binder, pigments, reflective pigments and water. Water is the liquid carrier, and most white coatings are water based.
The Panache white reflective elastomeric coating can reflect up to 92 percent of visible light and keeps the roof much cooler than aluminium, black or non-reflective roofing. Lower temperature means lower energy use, and the coating adds years to the roof and avoids costly tear-offs and re-roofing.
