High SRI paints, coatings and surfaces are materials with high reflectivity and high emissivity, and their performance is measured by the Solar Reflective Index. They work on IR reflection technology. For contractors, developers, architects and industrial buyers, the choice of manufacturer decides whether the SRI value on the data sheet is the same as the SRI value the roof keeps after a few monsoons. Panache Greentech Solutions manufactures high SRI coatings in Vadodara, Gujarat, and supplies them for projects across India.
Green Pro certified systems, manufactured in India, for roofs, walls and pavements
Panache assures a Green Pro certified range of high SRI products and systems that includes coatings and paints for roofs, walls, pavements, cycle tracks, driveways and roads. It is a simple, efficient and sustainable surface cooling system that provides solar insulation with NIR reflection technology and nanotechnology, reducing the generation of heat and the ingress of heat indoors.
a 5 coat high SRI system. The system consists of a primer, a high SRI elastomeric coating and a transparent protective coating. The primer covers about 200 sq ft per 2 kg pack and is brush applied, and the coating layers cover about 120 sq ft per kg and can be applied by brush, spray or roller. Packing is available in buckets from 1 kg to 20 kg. See the Cool Tops Premium page.
Know MoreAlmost 58 to 60 percent of the solar radiation reaching the earth is infrared. Built structures with low reflectivity and low emissivity absorb it, convert it into heat and reach 60 to 75 °C. That heat is conducted indoors and released into the air.
A high SRI coating reflects infrared radiation and stops the substrate from heating. High thermal emittance lets the surface radiate away the heat it does absorb. Under peak summer conditions, roofs stay up to 20 to 28 °C cooler and walls up to 10 °C cooler than conventional materials.
The SRI scale combines reflectance and emittance in one number. A good cool surface material has an SRI above 100. When you evaluate suppliers, ask for the initial and the aged SRI, the test method, the test report and the certificates, so that different products can be compared on equal terms.
Urbanisation and concrete construction have raised surface temperatures in cities up to 70 °C. Warmer air over cities intensifies the Urban Heat Island effect. At an ambient temperature of 45 °C, a metal roof can reach 80 °C and a cement roof 65 to 70 °C.
High solar gain and long hot seasons, along with a growing middle class and construction sector, have increased the purchase of air conditioners, which are among the biggest electricity consumers. A cool roof is a promising, reliable and environmentally friendly passive strategy to reduce that demand.
Raising the albedo of a roof reduces solar heat gain, saves electricity, lowers peak power demand, curbs pollution and improves air quality by slowing smog forming reactions. Cool surfaces reduce UHI intensity and building cooling loads, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
For buyers, this makes the manufacturer's technical capability important. A good product is formulated for aged performance, ease of application and compatibility with the substrate, not only for a high initial reading. A cool roof coating consists of a binder, usually an organic or silicone compound, blended with pigments and additives. It protects the roof membrane for a longer life cycle and reflects solar radiation for lower air conditioning cost.
The main components are the binder, pigments, reflective pigments and water. Water is the liquid carrier that gives the viscosity for a thin coat, and most white coatings today are water based.
The Panache white reflective elastomeric coating can reflect up to 92 percent of visible light and keeps the roof much cooler than aluminium, black or non-reflective roofing. It lowers energy use, adds years to the roof and avoids costly tear-offs and re-roofing.
