Walls exposed to the sun collect heat through the day and pass it into rooms through conduction. Thermal insulation plaster slows that transfer by adding a low conductivity layer to the wall itself. Insulmix Wall Plaster from Panache is made from sealed expanded clay, expanded microspheres and minerals, and is applied like a normal plaster. It reduces the heat that reaches the interior, lowers air conditioning consumption and does not add a separate layer that could peel away from the wall.
Thermal insulation products for walls, roofs and finishes
Insulmix is the Panache thermal insulation range. It includes plaster for walls, screed for roofs and an insulated wall texture. All are made from sealed expanded clay, expanded microspheres and minerals. Explore the range under thermal insulation and the product page for Insulmix Wall Plaster.

Know MoreThermal insulation is a construction material with low thermal conductivity, often less than 0.1 W/mK. A low value means the material passes heat slowly, so the temperature difference between the outside and the inside of a wall is maintained.
Insulmix depends on lightweight, cellular aggregates. When the microspheres and clay are heated rapidly to high temperature, the water in them vaporises instantly and the material expands to 20 to 40 times its original volume. The result is a lightweight aggregate with a closed structure and trapped air, which is what gives the plaster its insulating ability.
Because the plaster is mineral based, its heat expansion behaviour is compatible with the wall, so it does not develop cracks from differences in expansion. Cellular structure also contributes acoustic insulation, so the plaster reduces sound transmission as well as heat.
In India, where cooling dominates energy use, insulation slows daytime heat entering the wall and reduces the load on air conditioning. It is used in projects targeting IGBC, GRIHA and LEED certification.
In sunny weather, an exposed wall surface can reach high temperatures, and that heat travels inward for hours. Interiors stay warm into the evening, and air conditioners run longer to compensate. At an ambient temperature of 45 °C, exposed cement surfaces reach 65 to 70 °C.
Insulation plaster reduces AC consumption and energy costs and lowers CO2 emissions. Buildings that keep heat out also release less heat into the air around them, which reduces the Urban Heat Island effect, and they improve thermal comfort inside.
The strongest results come from combining insulation with a reflective finish. A high SRI wall coating such as Cool Wrap keeps the outer surface up to 10 °C cooler, and insulation plaster limits what heat remains. The plaster and the reflective system address different parts of the heat path, and together they give a stable wall temperature.

Insulation controls heat that has entered the building. A cool roof coating stops much of it from entering. It consists of a binder, usually organic or silicone, blended with pigments and additives, and it protects the roof membrane while reflecting solar radiation.
The main components are the binder, pigments, reflective pigments and water. Water is the liquid carrier, and most white coatings are water based.
The Panache white reflective elastomeric coating can reflect up to 92 percent of visible light and keeps the roof much cooler than aluminium, black or non-reflective roofing, which lowers energy use and adds years to the roof.
